Portrait without encounter – Investigative online research
Jeff Goolsby is a passionate supporter of the conservative Tea Party. The 32 year old admires and supports libertarian politicians like Senator Rand Paul or the ultra-conservative multimillionaire Steve Forbes. Which does not stop him from living the life of a gay real estate agent in New York. Or sometimes even that of "Jeffrina", dressed in a tight fitted black evening gown and wearing a shiny pearl necklace. Boris Kartheuser portrays Goolsby's life in detail for Swiss magazine NZZ Folio. Without ever having talked to the protagonist. The story is the result of a very extended web research. Investigative journalist Kartheuser shows on the basis of the portrait how operator-searches, whois information, databases, site-ripping and social media can be used to get the best results. www.investigativerecherche.de, http://folio.nzz.ch/2014/oktober/ist-das-ein-portrait, http://folio.nzz.ch/2014/oktober/nachtrag-ist-das-ein-portrait
